About the Expansion

Including the negative impacts on the local environment, community, and safety concerns, the expansion will increase air traffic, leading to higher noise levels and environmental disturbances, which could affect the quality of life of nearby residents and disrupt local wildlife. The presence of larger aircraft and increased activity does not align with the existing community's lifestyle and preferences, which alters the rural character of the area. Additionally, there will be increased safety concerns with more aircraft, and local infrastructure such as roads could experience higher traffic, leading to congestion and wear.

The plan includes:

• Constructing 18 new hangars, the smallest at 8,000 sqft and the largest at almost 20,000 sqft.^(PDF)
• Constructing 283 new parking spaces.^(PDF)
• Runway will be expanded by 1,050 feet.^(PDF)
• Allows aircraft to take off and land that are up to 12,500 lbs, such as the Beechcraft King Air 250 or the DHC-6 Twin Otter; planes that are much larger than what we see coming in to the airport currently.

Harford Residents Against Airport Growth (HRAAG) is a grassroots organization that was founded by a group of concerned residents who share a common goal - to preserve the tranquility and environment of Harford County. We believe that the expansion of Harford County Airport poses significant challenges to our community, and we are dedicated to addressing these issues through community engagement, advocacy, and informed discussions.

Our journey began with a shared concern about the potential impacts of airport expansion on our community's well-being. We believe that the preservation of our environment and the protection of our residents are of utmost importance. HRAAG was formed as a platform for residents to come together, voice their concerns, and take action to ensure a better future for our county.
